This site is an introduction to the archaeology of the Cheviot Hills and the surrounding area
in North East England, close to the Scottish border.

I will try to give some meaning and perspective to the lumps and bumps in the ground
and to the more spectacular evidence of the past so easily accessed in the area.

Using clear maps, diagrams and descriptions I hope to show you how to find the archaeology
and to get the most from your visit to the area.

I have special interests in Iron Age hillforts, their evolution and origins, and in
the Anglo Saxon and Early Medieval 'palace' sites
of the Milfield plain.
