The site of Ad Gefrin and Yeavering Bell is situated
about four miles to the west of Wooler. From Wooler take the B6351
signposted to Milfield and Coldstream.
The road takes you west, along the foothills of the Cheviots. At Akeld
the main road swings north and here you will see a turnoff to the left
signposted Yeavering and Kirknewton. Go for it.
Carry on along this road and, finally, on your right you will see
the roadside Gefrin monument in a lay-by on the north side of the road,
not too hard to miss I will admit.
To park, go on until there is a farm road turnoff on the left. You
can park on this turnoff but remember this is a working farm road and
you should park well into the verge so as not to obstruct any farm
traffic.
Alternatively turn here, head back, and park in the lay-by in front
of the Gefrin monument. Only space for two or three cars here though.
The field directly behind the monument is the site of Gefrin. To the
south lies Yeavering Bell. |
